Patricia Smith has been teaching Spanish since 1970 and has taught all levels. She studied Spanish in Argentina and in Madrid, Spain. Originally from Syracuse, NY, she has a BA in Spanish and French from St. Lawrence University, a Masters in Education from Bridgewater State College, and an MA in Spanish from Middlebury College. Most of her career was in the public schools of Braintree, Massachusetts, where she taught a variety of Spanish classes, but particularly AP Language, from 1987 until 2002, when she retired. She missed the classroom, so after one semester of leisure, she began teaching at the college level, at Suffolk University and at Tufts University. She has taught at these two colleges continuously since 2003. Patti became involved with the AP Reading in 1989, and has been a reader almost every year since then. She has read literature, language essays, and listened to tapes and CDs. She has served as a Table Leader several times at the reading for AP Literature. Much of her expertise comes from experience and knowledge gleaned from the AP Readings. She became an AP Consultant in 2001, and has conducted workshops at St. Johnsbury since 2005. She has also lead workshops in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, and Florida.
