In Person 2024 Workshops | Week 3 | July 21-25

The workshop sessions are small, averaging fewer than 15 participants. Each session is designed to meet the needs of the individual participants to ensure that each teacher returns to the classroom with increased confidence and strategies for success.

 

The leaders are experienced AP teachers with outstanding reputations in public and private schools. All serve as readers at their respective AP readings and are endorsed by the College Board to lead AP workshops. Many of our consultants are table leaders and members of their respective course’s test development committee.

AP African American Studies

Instructor:  Rachel Williams-Giordano

 

During this AP African American Studies APSI, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines. AP Calculus AB - Experienced Teachers

Instructor:  Mark Littlefield

 

This AP Calculus AB Experienced Institute is designed for teachers who have taught the AB course. This course will allow participants to dig deeper with the contents of the AB course. This session will provide the opportunity to share ideas, lessons, and experiences. Participants will be asked to share lessons and also to develop new lessons. In this workshop, attendees will be encouraged to analyze the Course and Exam Description (CED) to look at different ways and alternate orders of developing concepts in the course. Emphasis will be to look at many topics of the AB course through multiple representations (analytical, graphical, numerical, and verbal). The final agenda of the session will be framed to include topics requested by participants. Discussions will be around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Time will be spent looking at the scoring of the AP Calculus AB exam by looking at sample solutions. Other topics will include using AP Classroom, analyzing the Instructional Planning Report, and pacing the course.

AP Computer Science Principles

During this AP Computer Science Principles APSI, you’ll explore the course Computational Thinking Practices and the components of the curriculum framework, including the big ideas, enduring understandings, learning objectives, and essential knowledge statements. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines. After attending this APSI, you’ll be able to understand the skills students will need to demonstrate to be successful in the AP Computer Science Principles course and exam; incorporate the components of the curriculum framework, including the big ideas, enduring understandings, learning objectives, and essential knowledge, when building your curriculum; and use activities that organize the course content to develop students’ proficiencies in the skills identified in the curriculum framework.

AP Economics - Macro and Micro (combined)

Instructor:  Theresa Fischer

 

This is a workshop to immerse the teachers in the AP Economics (Macroeconomics/ Microeconomics) program with the support of the Course and Exam Description (CED). The workshop will focus on specific content concerns outlined by the teachers in the class and by the Chief Reader report. We will review economic models and theories, help students calculate and evaluate economic data and create students centered classroom experiences and simulations for successful learning.  This will help students overcome some of the challenges in the course. A major part of the workshop will be devoted to planning and gaining confidence in our ability to teach the existing AP Economic syllabus and form a lasting professional learning community. 

AP English Language and Composition - New & Experienced Teachers
